The swab robot was initially developed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was created in an effort to protect healthcare workers from the risk of cross infection during manual swabs and to combat low quality of samples due to inter-personal variability.
The main functionality of the robot is the automated throat swab. The applications are therefore numerous and not limited to testing for infectious diseases such as COVID-19.
The swab robot can sample anything that can be tested with a throat swab.
